College President

Founded in Newton, NC in 1851, Catawba College is the sixth oldest college in North Carolina.  In 1925, the College moved to the historic Piedmont North Carolina city of Salisbury and today consists of 35 buildings on 276 wooded acres.  Centrally located within the state, it is two hours from the Appalachian Mountains of western North Carolina, four hours from the beaches on the Atlantic Coast, and less than an hour's drive to the Piedmont Triad area of North Carolina and the metropolitan area of Charlotte, NC.  Throughout its history as a private co-educational residential institution, Catawba has provided students with career preparation grounded in the liberal arts tradition while offering Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Business Administration, Bachelor of Fine Arts, Bachelor of Science, and Master's of Education degrees to traditional and non-traditional students.  As a result, the College has a long successful tradition of preparing students to reach their potential.

Catawba College has a student body of approximately 1000 students that come from a variety of states throughout the US and many different countries.  Approximately 75% of these students live on campus.  The College employs approximately 76 full-time faculty of which more than 70% hold terminal degrees in their field.  As such, Catawba is able to maintain a student-faculty ratio of approximately 16 to 1, and offer over 40 academic fields of study.  Outside the classroom, Catawba offers students a variety of activities including varsity athletic programs which compete in the NCAA Division II South Atlantic Conference.  Additional information about Catawba College can be found at www.catawba.edu.

The President of Catawba College is appointed by, and reports directly to, the Board of Trustees.  Positions reporting to the President include:  Provost, Senior Vice President for External Relations, Vice President of Business & Finance, and Vice President for Enrollment Services.  The President serves as the Chief Executive Officer of the College with responsibility for ensuring the success of the College's mission, enrollment management, academic integrity, fiscal stability and viability, fundraising efforts, personnel development, and physical plant management.  In doing so, the President works closely with the Board of Trustees in developing, communicating, and executing the College's strategy consistent with the overall mission, vision, and values of Catawba.

The ideal candidate will have a passion for student-centered, liberal arts education.  He/she will be a visionary and a strategic thinker with the ability to think outside the box.  Exceptional interpersonal, business, managerial, written and oral  skills are required along with a proven record of successful leadership in his or her vocation, whether within or outside of an academic environment.  Compensation is commensurate with experience and includes a competitive base salary, benefits, relocation assistance, and housing.
